Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 13, 2026

Welcome to Fort Prompt, provided via fortprompt.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have full control over your data. This Privacy Policy explains how our browser extension and associated website collect, use, and protect your information.

By installing the Fort Prompt extension or using our website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Fort Prompt is designed to be privacy-first. The majority of your data remains strictly on your local device. Here is exactly what data is involved when you use our services:

A. Data Stored Strictly Locally (On Your Device)

  • Third-Party API Keys: If you provide an OpenRouter API key to use your own AI models, it is stored securely in your browser’s local database. Your API keys are never sent to our servers.
  • Saved Prompts & Knowledge Bases: Any prompts you save or knowledge bases you create are stored locally on your device unless you actively choose to sync them.
  • Google OAuth Tokens: If you connect your Google account, the authentication token is stored locally in your browser.

B. Data Sent to Third-Party AI Providers

  • User Prompts and Chat Context: When you click “Improve,” “Enhance,” or run a prompt, the text inside the Fort Prompt editor—along with your selected Knowledge Base and any text extracted via the “Import Chat” feature—is sent directly to the AI provider you selected (e.g., OpenRouter) to generate a response.
  • Web Page Content (Import Chat Feature): If you actively click “Import Chat History”, the extension extracts text from the AI chat platform you are currently viewing (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to provide context for your prompt. This data is only extracted when you explicitly trigger the action and is sent directly to your chosen AI API.

C. Data We Collect for Account & License Management

  • Email Address & License Key: If you sign in using a Pro/Premium license, we collect your email and license key.
  • Usage Data (Credits): To enforce free plan limits or license limits, we track your AI generation usage (credits). This data is securely synced with our backend automation system (via secure webhooks) to validate your license and update your credit balance.

2. Google Sheets Integration & User Data Policy

Fort Prompt offers an optional feature to sync your Prompt Library and Knowledge Bases to your personal Google Sheets.

  • Authentication: We use Google OAuth to securely request permission to manage your Google Sheets.
  • Scope of Access: We only request the minimum permissions necessary ([https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets](https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets)) to read from and write to the specific Google Sheet ID you provide.
  • Data Usage: The data synced to Google Sheets consists solely of the prompts, workspaces, and knowledge bases you created within the extension.
  • Compliance: Fort Prompt’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use your Google Sheets data to train AI models, nor do we sell it to third parties.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Fort Prompt service:

  • To process your text and generate refined prompts via your connected AI APIs.
  • To organize and sync your prompt library (if Google Sheets sync is enabled).
  • To validate your license and manage your credit limits.
  • To provide customer support and troubleshoot issues.

4. How We Share Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Data is only shared with third parties in the following necessary circumstances:

  • AI Providers (e.g., OpenRouter): Your prompt text and context are sent to these APIs to generate responses.
  • Google (Alphabet Inc.): Only if you opt-in to Google Sheets syncing, data is sent to your personal Google Drive.
  • Payment & License Processors: Your email and license key are verified through our backend systems to authenticate your account.

5. Security

We take data security seriously.

  • All communication between the extension and third-party APIs (OpenRouter, Google) occurs over secure, encrypted HTTPS connections.
  • Your sensitive API keys are not transmitted to or stored on our servers; they live locally in your browser.
  • If you clear your browser data or uninstall the extension, your local data (including API keys and saved prompts not synced to Google Sheets) will be permanently deleted.

6. Your Choices and Data Rights

You have full control over your data:

  • Disconnect Google Sheets: You can disconnect your Google account and delete the Google Sheet ID directly from the extension’s settings panel at any time.
  • Remove API Keys: You can delete your OpenRouter API key from the settings panel.
  • Delete Local Data: You can delete specific prompts, workspaces, and knowledge bases from within the extension UI. Uninstalling the extension will wipe all locally stored data.
  • Revoke Access: You can revoke Fort Prompt’s access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account Security settings.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy or via a notification within the extension.
